Why Choose Primer I.M?

• Pre-treatment peace of mind

Used as a pre treatment before installation of Passive Purple®, Airtight White® & Passive Purple® External. The use of this wall primer will consolidate and close off difficult porous substrates like concrete bricks, calcium silicate stone and lime renders. The small molecules in it enter deeply into the substrate and once absorbed function to consolidate as well as a primer. You then apply water dispersion coatings over the top.

• How does it work differently to Lime Prime?

Has much smaller molecular structure so it’s not to be used on render or porous concrete block because it has no/little effect. It’s a microemulsion whose small molecular makeup enters deeply into the substrate, so it functions to consolidate as well as prime. Use Primer I.M on dense substrates such as concrete and old lime — surfaces that need consolidation before a coating goes on. For bare, dusty, porous or lime substrates, use Lime Prime instead.

• Works together with our air & vapour control membranes

Due to the high vapour permeability of Primer I.M it can accommodate subtle movements (without cracking). It sits on top of substrates and works in perfect unison with our air & vapour control membranes' high tensile elongation values and is a perfect solution for older buildings that move a lot.

Primer I.M for retrofit

Retrofit walls are rarely perfect — they are often dense, sealed, previously painted, or moving as the building ages. Primer I.M is the pre-treatment for these tougher, dense substrates: it consolidates the surface and gives Passive Purple, Airtight White and Passive Purple External a sound, high-grab base to bond to. Its high vapour permeability and flexibility let it move with older buildings without cracking, so a retrofit airtight layer stays put and helps deliver a BBA-approved, building-control-ready result. For bare, dusty, porous or lime substrates, reach for Lime Prime — between them the two primers cover the full range of retrofit surfaces.
