Retrofit / Heritage

Maintaining architectural integrity, while promoting a 21st century standard of living is no longer a far-off dream.

Here at Intelligent Membranes, we have a range specifically for retrofitting air tightness and vapour control. Not only are the products extremely effective, but they are also environmentally friendly. Airtightness and controlling vapour equals better energy efficiency and a healthier environment for the inhabitants.

Passive Purple: The fact that Passive Purple is a liquid membrane means that it adheres to the surface it is applied to making it very difficult to damage. Unlike a paper membrane which can be susceptible to cuts, It impregnates the surface it is adhered to and creates an airtight substrate filling any holes, cracks, penetration leaks or problem areas.

Passive Purple External: The perfect solution for retrofitting. Passive Purple External ensures a building is airtight and watertight. At the same time, it is vapour breathable, maintaining vapor control and eliminating concerns about interstitial condensation and mould.

Products that preserve history

The team were asked to help answer the age-old question, how do we retrofit construction sites for airtightness while maintaining breathability in the structure of the building fabric? The problem with lime walls is that they need consolidation, to give a firm substructure for the liquid paint that we’re applying.

With all the amazing historic insights these buildings offer, we at Intelligent Membranes want to use sustainable and VOC-free building materials to combine historic integrity with 21st-century performance. Solving the problem, with solutions that promote the heritage of a building. We think that buildings can be traditional, but at the same time with a higher standard of airtightness, they can become more liveable and comfortable for their occupants.

Our new heritage products Lime Prime & Render Prime solve 2 common issues contractors and architects have on historical construction sites.

Render Prime & Lime Prime

Our new Heritage products Lime Prime & Render Prime solve 2 common issues contractors and architects have on construction sites.

Lime Prime is a hand spray/brush applied base coat to cover the lime-based substructures of grade-listed buildings whilst maintaining a breathable state. It does this by fully impregnating the surface and becoming part of the substrate, so it treats the condition of the lime as well as priming it for other materials to go on top.

Before Render Prime came out all we could do was recommend other polymer adhesives to builders that we have personally tested on Passive Purple & Passive Purple External.

Now we have developed Render Prime, a substance that sits on top of Passive Purple or Passive Purple External allowing you to then apply plasterboard through the dot and dab method or apply a skim coat or screed treatment depending on the job detail. Render prime doesn’t just add a string to our bow, it also means building contractors and the construction management team save time looking elsewhere for suitable polymer adhesives, and we all know how key time is when it comes to finishing building projects promptly and within budget.
